To complement our solar panel offering, Thornova Solar has added a line of inverters to its portfolio
On-grid string inverters lower initial cost as they are generally less expensive compared to microinverters or hybrid inverters. Additionally, their simple design reduces installation and maintenance costs. As they have been in use for decades they are a proven technology, offering high conversion efficiency. The easy scalability makes them suitable for both small residential setups and large commercial installations alike. String inverters provide a single point of control for multiple panels, allowing the system to be centrally monitored, thus simplifying maintenance and troubleshooting. Having fewer components compared to other inverter solutions they are more reliable and robust as there are fewer points of failure in the overall system. By exporting excess electricity back to the grid, users can benefit from net metering programs and string inverters are equipped to manage fluctuations in the grid for safe and efficient power flow. Finally, advanced support features like ant-islanding protection, ensure the inverter shuts down during a grid outage to protect utility workers, and grid stabilization services.
Hybrid Inverters allow prioritization of solar energy according to user requirements, depending on loads required to be served or renumeration of grid fed electricity. With low and declining Feed-in Tariffs for grid-fed electricity prioritizing using solar energy for direct consumption followed by energy storage for later use and only feed back the energy to the grid that exceeds a home owners or business entities demand, this approach helps to optimises self-consumption, increases cost savings and, hence, maximising return on investment.
Micro inverters focus on optimizing the performance of individual solar panels and enabling flexible system design. This is of particular advantage in case of shading common in balcony systems that can be subject to shading from nearby buildings or trees, as they allow each solar panel to operate independently. For this reason they also enable panel-level-monitoring to easily identify if any panel is underperforming due to shading, dirt or other issues. Additionally, micro inverters are considered to be the safer option as they reduce the risk of high voltage DC cabling on a roof or balcony, as each solar panel's DC power is directly converted to AC power. By eliminating the need for string sizing and connecting several panels to one inverter they ease installation and reduce the potential for wiring errors. As no additional device is required to be installed, they save space and are thus particularly beneficial in confined spaces like balconies. Sunova Solar offers its micro inverters as separate products and as part of its balcony solar kit.
